Lease to William Piggott, Woollen Draper, of lands called Cowlease, Limebill and Claypitt Field, part of Farnham Great Park for 4 score and 17 years dated '20 Feb Charles I 18 ' at £30 per annum plus 20 pounds of good loaf sugar"**

(The date is confusingly stated as 1665 in the lease book, but Charles I's 18th regnal year was 27 Mar 1642 to 26 Mar 1643 ie 22 years earlier than 1665 but 17 years earlier than Charles II's succession. So unless I have made a ghastly mistake this document seems to be an attempt to backdate the lease into the period of the Commonwealth. If this is correct then it will have significance as to who was providing the potters' clay from Claypit Woods during the Commonwealth since this lease definitely includes Claypitts)

Transcription of part of lease:

And shall and will also at his and theire owne proper costs and charges well and sufficiently repair support #### uphold and kepe the hedge or same between the Clay Pitt Feild aforesaid and a close called Swing Swang Close now in the occupation of Isaac Walton #### and all other hedges and ditches gates stiles bridges fences (?) and inclosures.
