Wills and inventories were transcribed for the Yateley History Project in 1982/85 by Don Ridgers, Alison Ridgers, Caroline Powell, Agnes Stephenson and Jill Wilbrahim under the direction of Dr John Porter

 

1 In the name of God amen the Seaven and twentithe daye of Aprill in the yeare of

2 our Lorde god 1606 And in the yeare of the Raigne of our soveraigne Lorde James

3 by the grace of god kinge of Englande ffrance and Irelande defender of the faithe

4 &c the ffourthe and of Scotlande the nyne and thirtithe I Thomas Watts of Cove

5 in the p(ar)ishe of yateley in the Countie of Southt husbandman beinge weake of

6 bodie but of good and p(er)fecte remembrance thanks be unto almightie god doe make

7 and ordeyne this my present Testament conteyninge herein my laste Will in

8 manner and forme followinge ffirste and principally I comende my soule unto almightie

9 god my maker and redeemer and my bodie to be buried in the p(ar)ishe Churche yarde of

10 yateley aforesaid And I geve unto the mother Churche of Winton ijd Item I geve and

11 bequeathe unto Nicholas Stevens my sonne in lawe ffoure pounds of good and lawfull

12 money of England to be paide unto hym within fortie weeks next ensuinge after my

13 decease Item I geve and bequeathe unto Johan Watts my seconde daughter ten pounds

14 of good and lawfull money of England to be payd unto her the saide Johan at the daye

15 of her mariage whensoever it shall happen And I geve more unto her my greatest

16 kettle exceptinge one and my greatest brasse pott two pewter platters two pottingers and

17 a coffer to be deliv(er)ed unto her within one monthe next after my decease Item I geve

18 and bequeathe unto Alce Watts my third daughter Nyne pounds of good and lawfull

19 money of England to be likewise paide unto her the said Alce at the daye of her

20 mariage whensoever it shall happen And I geve more unto her the same Alce my

21 Cupborde one pewter platter two pottingers my least brasse pan and a coffer to be

22 delivered unto her within one monethe next after my decease Item I geve and

23 bequeathe unto Anne Watts my youngest daughter the like some of nyne pounds

24 of good and lawfull money of England to be paide unto her likewise at the daye

25 of he marriage whensoever it shall happen And I geve more unto her the said Anne my

26 little table with a payre of tressells standinge in the lofte and a bedstide with a

27 testorne and hangings to the same two pewter pottingers and a coffer to be deliv(er)ed unto

28 her likewise within one monethe next after my decease Item I geve unto Henry Watts

29 my brother all my wearinge apparrell Item whereas I am indetted and doe owe unto

30 John Watts my younger sonne the some of thirtie three shillings and foure pence my full

31 mynde and will is the same shalbe paide unto hym within three monethes next after my

32 decease And I geve moreover unto hym the said John my sonne ffyve pounds sixe

33 shillings and eight pence of good and lawfull money of England to make up the aforesaid

34 some of xxxiijs iiijd full and Just seaven pounds and the same to be paide unto hym all

35 wholy together within three monethes next after my decease Item I geve unto Nicholas

36 Steevens my god sonne one yew lambe to be deliv(er)ed unto hym immediatly after my

37 decease Item I geve unto John Puckeridge half a bushell of Rie to be deliv(er)ed unto hym

38 at harvest next after my decease Item I geve unto Nicholas Dorye one bushell of Rie

39 to be deliv(er)ed unto hym likewise at harvest next after my decease Item I geve unto

40 Margaret Hollis my sister one bushell of Rie to be deliv(er)ed unto her at harvest next

41 after my decease Item I geve unto widdow Reddinge vjd and to the lame woman Elizabeth

42 Watts other vjd and to Jane ffoster other vjd to be delivered unto them presently after

43 my decease And the resedue of all my goods and Chattells whatsoever heretofore

44 not geven nor bequeathed my funerall expencs discharged I wholie geve and bequeath

45 unto Thomas Watts myne eldest sonne who I ordeyne and make my full and

46 onely executor of this my present Testament and laste Will and he to p(er)forme all

47 things accordingly as I have herein uttered declared and caused to be written And

48 I desire ordeyne and make my good frendes Martyn Shonck of Yateley and Edward

49 Westbroke of Cove to be overseers hereof to see the same executed And I give

50 unto them in some p(ar)te of recompence towards their paynes to be taken herein Sixe shillings

51 and eight pence that is to witt three shillings foure pence apeece
